Service Description
Man has used mark-making from Paleolithic times for shamanic, and recording purposes. This primal urge is still alive in us today. As unique as a fingerprint, or handwriting, each person has their own distinctive way of seeing and symbolizing the world around them. Given the right guidance and environment this can be nurtured and uncovered. Whilst exploring vastly different methods; studying vastly different styles of the great artists as practice, delving into basic concepts of line, form, tone, shading, texture we simultaneously investigate and clarify the subject matter we wish to portray. We will experiment with media: pencil, charcoal, ink and pen, mixed media, oil pastels, conté using these on different surfaces and textures. Students then work on their own individual projects in the media of their choice, more particular skills are mastered as called for in the work. Homework is given in sketchbooks to inspire, inform and consolidate. " It gives me such a sense of peace to draw; more than prayer, walks, anything."-Sylvia Plath.
